The Comptroller Frank Onyeka led TinCan Island Customs Command is making waves and for good reasons too. Under his leadership, the command has raised the bar surpassing its 2025 revenue target by raking in a whopping ₦1.576 trillion as at December 23, 2025. This figure is over ₦51.837 billion above the revenue target set for the command in the 2025 fiscal year
This impressive feat is a testament to Onyeka’s commitment to excellence and his team’s dedication to plugging revenue leakages and curbing wastages.
Addressing a press conference, Tuesday, Comptroller Onyeka attributed the impressive performance to the resilience and dedication of officers and men of his command, noting that “the milestone achievement reflects discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to duty. This growth did not happen by chance; it is the outcome of deliberate reforms, improved processes, and collective responsibility.”
He revealed that “the commands major revenue contributors remained bulk cargo, general merchandise, and the importation of used vehicles, which constitute a significant volume of trade passing through the Port. Through diligent cargo examination, and strict adherence to customs procedures, the Command ensured that government revenue due on these imports was fully collected”.
One of Onyeka’s key strategies is the elimination of multiple and unnecessary alerts, which previously slowed down clearance processes and created opportunities for abuse. By streamlining alerts and strengthening internal coordination, the command improved efficiency without compromising control. This move not only boosted revenue but also enhanced trade facilitation, making it easier for importers and exporters to do business.
Another major strategy is the focus on transparency and accountability which has also paid off. This is in addition to sustained regular engagement with stakeholders importers, licensed customs agents, terminal operators, and shipping companies and others, thus creating an enabling environment for legitimate trade. This collaborative approach helped to build trust and improve compliance, that contributed to the significant growth in revenue collection.
But Onyeka’s work doesn’t stop at revenue collection. The command during the period in review also intensified enforcement activities, leveraging intelligence-led operations to intercept prohibited and improperly declared goods. This is in demonstration of the command’s commitment to national security, public safety, and economic integrity.
All the achievements couldn’t have been possible without the backing of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose visionary leadership and institutional support gave the impetus for the command to strive for higher goals. Controller Onyeka also commended his predecessor, Deputy Comptroller Dera Nnadi, officers of the command, and stakeholders for their cooperation and dedication.

Meanwhile, as the year draws to a close, Onyeka remains optimistic, pledging to sustain the command’s impressive revenue performance and compliance enforcement.
“As we move forward, the Command remains steadfast in its commitment to consolidating these gains, deepening transparency and contributing effectively to the growth of the Federal Government’s fiscal policies”. Onyeka said.
With his proven track record, it’s without doubt that the TinCan Island Customs Command will continue to raise the revenue bar and set new benchmarks for others to follow.
