In a significant boost to teacher recognition and Corporate Social Investment(CSI) in Nigeria, Honda Automobile Western Africa Limited (HAWA) has raised the bar for rewarding excellence in education by donating a brand-new Honda HR-V valued at ₦41.5 million as the star prize for the 2026 Maltina Teacher of the Year Award.

The gesture marks a major milestone in the 12-year history of the prestigious competition, as it is the first time the overall winner will receive a brand-new vehicle, underscoring a growing commitment by corporate organisations to celebrate and incentivise outstanding educators.

Beyond driving home one of Honda’s flagship sport utility vehicles, the eventual winner will also benefit from five years of free scheduled servicing and a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, a package designed to ease ownership costs while ensuring long-term peace of mind.
The partnership between HAWA and the Maltina Teacher of the Year initiative reflects an increasing recognition of the pivotal role teachers play in national development and the need to reward their invaluable contributions to society.
Speaking during the official flag-off of the competition in Lagos, Managing Director of Honda Automobile Western Africa Limited, Mr. Daisuke Mita, described teachers as nation builders whose dedication shapes future generations.
According to him, supporting the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award aligns with Honda’s philosophy of creating value for society and contributing meaningfully to community development.
“It is a great honour for Honda to support the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award and celebrate excellence in education,” Mita said.
“By presenting the winner with a Honda HR-V, along with five years of free service and warranty, we hope to provide a meaningful reward that enhances mobility, convenience and quality of life.”

For Honda, the initiative extends beyond corporate philanthropy. It embodies the automobile manufacturer’s global vision of being a company that society values and desires to exist—one that positively impacts lives through innovation and community engagement.
Mita noted that teachers remain among society’s most influential professionals because of their role in nurturing future leaders, inspiring innovation and laying the foundation for sustainable national progress.
“Through this initiative, Honda seeks to celebrate excellence in education and recognise the extraordinary impact teachers make every day,” he added.
The choice of the Honda HR-V as the grand prize was deliberate. Designed to combine style, comfort, safety and efficiency, the vehicle is expected to meet the diverse needs of modern professionals.
Whether commuting to school, attending official engagements, travelling with family or pursuing personal aspirations, the HR-V offers a blend of practicality and performance tailored to everyday realities.
Among its standout features are advanced safety technologies, impressive fuel efficiency, a spacious and flexible interior, and Honda’s globally acclaimed durability and reliability.
The SUV also boasts a sleek and contemporary design that symbolises achievement and excellence—qualities that resonate strongly with the spirit of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award.
Importantly, the vehicle will be assembled at HAWA’s plant in Ota, Ogun State, highlighting the company’s contribution to local manufacturing and job creation within Nigeria’s automotive industry.
Backed by a nationwide after-sales support network and a comprehensive five-year warranty, the HR-V package offers not only prestige but also practical value for the award recipient.
Industry observers believe the partnership could signal a new era in corporate support for education, encouraging more private sector organisations to invest in recognising and rewarding outstanding teachers.
As Nigeria continues to grapple with challenges in the education sector, initiatives such as the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award, strengthened by strategic corporate partnerships, may help elevate the status of teachers while inspiring excellence across classrooms nationwide.
For Honda, the collaboration reinforces its commitment to improving lives through mobility, innovation and meaningful social impact—demonstrating that corporate success and community development can indeed go hand in hand.
