SanlamAllianz Nigeria has been ranked high in the inaugural Insurance Meets Tech (IMT) 10 To Watch ranking, reinforcing its growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading, digitally driven insurers companies .
The insurance company was ranked third following innovations that are reshaping insurance accessibility and customer experience.
SanlamAllianz recorded a Digital Transformation Depth score of 84/100, a Market Impact score of 85/100, and a combined score of 84/100, placing it among the country’s top-performing insurers in digital transformation.
SanlamAllianz Nigeria according to the assessment is reputed to have built one of the industry’s strongest agent-enablement platforms through the deployment of the SanlamAllianz Connect App, which supports approximately 5,000 agents nationwide, significantly strengthening its digital product distribution and customer engagement.
The ranking also identified the insurer’s *1056# USSD claims service as the most customer-focused innovation among all companies assessed. The platform enables policyholders to conduct damage assessment through video calls while supporting same-day claims settlement, an innovation that the evaluators say has the potential to redefine consumer expectations across Nigeria’s insurance industry.
The assessment also notes the insurer’s ambition to become an AI-centric insurance company before the end of the year, adding that the technological infrastructure required to achieve that goal already exists and firmly in place.
SanlamAllianz Nigeria recently won the .NG Insurance Website of the Year 2025 award, a testament that the company’s digital investments are receiving broad market validation.
SanlamAllianz Nigeria resulted from the acquisition of Oasis Insurance Plc by FBN Life Assurance Limited, a partnership between FBN Holdings Plc and Sanlam Group South Africa. Following subsequent corporate restructuring and FBN Holdings’ divestment, the business evolved into Sanlam Life Insurance Nigeria Limited and Sanlam General Insurance Nigeria Limited.
The company’s transformation accelerated in September 2023 when Sanlam, Africa’s largest non-banking financial services company, and Allianz, one of the world’s leading insurers and asset managers, combined their African operations to establish the Sanlam Allianz Group, now one of the continent’s largest diversified non-banking financial services groups with operations in 27 African countries.
Convener of Insurance Meets Tech and Founder/Chief Executive Officer of Creato Urban, Odion Aleobua in his comment said the inaugural ranking is a reflection of the Nigerian insurance industry’s gradual alignment with the growing demand for comprehensive digitalisation in line with regulatory expectations.
He maintained that the companies recognised in the inaugural IMT 10 To Watch ranking are pacesetters in the industry’s digital transformation rather than waiting for change to occur organically.
Aleobua also notes that the initiative was informed by the need to identify, measure and celebrate insurers making meaningful digital progress while warning that the gap between industry leaders and laggards would continue to widen as technology adoption accelerates.
The IMT 10 To Watch framework evaluates insurers across two equally weighted criteria—digital transformation depth, which measures technology architecture, artificial intelligence adoption, automation and internal digitalisation; market impact, which assesses the reach, accessibility and relevance of digital initiatives to policyholders.
Scores are awarded on a 100-point scale, with the combined score representing the average of both categories.
The fifth edition of the Insurance Meets Tech is scheduled to hold on September 18, 2026, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja, Nigeria. It is an annual exercise by Creato Urban, is a leading platform that brings together regulators, insurers, technology firms, investors and industry stakeholders to advance digital transformation within Nigeria’s insurance sector.
