The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Head of Public Relations Unit, Edward Omoruyi Osagie, has been crowned most outstanding spokesperson in the Marine and Blue Economy sector at the 2025 National Spokespersons’ Awards (NSAwards).
The award ceremony, held on April 16, 2025, in Abuja, honored Osagie’s exceptional communication skills and dedication to promoting the agency’s image.
The NSAwards featured 62 finalists across 21 competitive categories, with three spokespersons from the maritime industry participating in the final round.
Osagie emerged as a finalist in three categories, including Spokesperson of the Year, Outstanding Spokesperson (Crisis Management – Public Sector), and Marine and Blue Economy Sector.
He ultimately won the Marine and Blue Economy Sector category, beating other notable finalists, including Ikechukwu Onyemekara of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Muyiwa Akande of Sifax Group.
Other winners at the ceremony included Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity Unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who was named Outstanding Federal Government Spokesperson of the Year.
Olufemi Soneye of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) won the Distinguished Spokesperson of the Year (Oil and Gas) category, while the Nigerian Customs Service was recognized as the Best Corporate Spokesperson Team.
The Chairman of the award’s Adjudication Committee, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, praised the nominees for their exceptional communication skills and emphasized that the selection process was rigorous and driven by merit.
Joshua Audu Gana, a Member of the House of Representatives, congratulated the organizers for recognizing outstanding communicators across various sectors and urged the winners to continue striving for excellence in their roles.
The Special Guest of Honor, Akintunde Rotimi Jr, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, highlighted the importance of involving spokespersons in policy formulation and decision-making processes.
He noted that spokespersons should be equipped with first-hand knowledge of key issues to enhance their effective and accurate public communication.
