Greenwich Bank has been applauded for its bold move into commercial banking space.
NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji (Dr) Umaru gave the commendation on the occasion of the commissioning of the regional commercial banking branch of Greenwich Bank in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
The opening of this branch marks the expansion of the Greenwich banking franchise from merchant banking to commercial banking.
Speaking on the occasion, the NGX Group Chairman said “this is the continuation of a journey that started about thirty two years ago when Greenwich Trust Limited was registered as financial adviser and issuing house by the Securities and Exchange Commission. It quickly carved a niche for itself in the capital market with its innovation and professionalism and in 2020, became one of the few investment banking houses to apply for and obtain a merchant banking licence. In this , it followed in the path of our esteemed doyen, Otunba Subomi Balogun”.
“Greenwich Bank has proved itself in investment and corporate banking and met all recapitalisation requirements while boosting market share and profitability. It recently restructured into a holding company which allows it to explore more investment and financial sub-sectors, the latest of which is commercial banking. Commercial banking is challenging but I am confident that Greenwich Bank will do well in it, given its commitment to its core values of integrity, efficiency, innovation and relationship.
Dr. Kwairanga also congratulated the Greenwich Group team under the leadership of it’s Group Chairman, Mr Kayode Falowo; the MD Mr. Benson Ogundeji, and one of the Directors Dr Faruk Umar on this new milestone achievement and wished them many successes in the years ahead.
