The Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to anchoring the Federal Government’s ambitious target of achieving a US $1 trillion Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This pledge was made by the NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Kwairanga, as he accepted the Capital Market Personality of the Year award at the Finance and Business Online Publishers (FIBOP) 2026 Annual Conference and Awards held in Lagos on Saturday, 17th October 2026.
Addressing a gathering of financial experts, online publishers, and industry leaders, Kwairanga emphasized that the exchange has actively aligned itself with the economic vision of President Bola Tinubu’s administration since its inception. He noted that the capital market has been working tirelessly to attract the critical investments and capital required to transform Nigeria’s macroeconomic potential into tangible economic realities.
The FIBOP 2026 conference, themed “Unlocking Nigeria’s Economic Potential,” focused heavily on how sectors such as insurance, fintech, trade, investment, and taxation can serve as catalysts for growth. Kwairanga commended the insights shared by the Chairman, Dr. Muda Yusuf and the keynote speaker, Taiwo Oyedele, underscoring that their comprehensive discussions directly complement the overarching objectives of the national economy.
Highlighting the strategic initiatives of the exchange, Kwairanga pointed out that NGX Group has systematically strengthened its operational platforms and processes. Furthermore, the group has broadened its product offerings and expanded corporate listings while actively enlightening both domestic and international investors about the positive impacts of ongoing macroeconomic reforms implemented by the current administration.
A cornerstone of this global outreach, according to the NGX Group Chairman, has been leveraged through recent high-profile milestones. In recent months, the exchange has utilized major market catalysts like the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) to aggressively showcase Nigeria across the African continent and global financial hubs, successfully drawing in cross-border capital.
Kwairanga stressed that a US $1 trillion economy is only achievable if the nation unlocks the vast amounts of capital needed to rehabilitate critical infrastructure, establish productive and thriving business enterprises, and generate sustainable jobs. By driving these core objectives, the Nigerian capital market remains positioned as a central pillar in translating government vision into broad-based prosperity that every citizen can feel.
Dr. Kwairanga also expressed profound gratitude to FIBOP for recognizing the capital market’s collective efforts. He dedicated the award to his management team led by Group Chief Executive Officer Temi Popoola, esteemed market doyens, regulatory partners including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and fellow board members and capital market operators whose collaborative support drives the nation’s financial progress.
